about
Why do we wear masks? I'm not referring to physical pieces of cloth, but to the mental and emotional facades and barriers we put up to protect ourselves from hurt, judgment, and blame. Many of us never allow others to know our true selves. Do we even know who we are well enough to fully share ourselves? Are our dreams and pursuits aimed at covering up deeper insecurities and doubts, or can we seek the things that will truly lift us up? Sometimes we need to slow down, take a breath, and contemplate the paths we take before it's too late and we fall short of the goals that will actually make us happy and bring us peace. Personally, I'm finding it worth exploring these concepts on a deeper level with integrity, intention, and unconditional love. Pondering my existence, stripping away outer layers and labels, and owning my truth. Owning it so deep that I never fear what others might think of me for simply being me.
Verse 1:
Searching for and hiding from the person that I really want to be
Find myself lost and unable to speak
I can't find the peace of mind that I seek
Full of regret for the things I've done
Afraid of who I am and what I might become
Chorus:
Will my arms grow strong enough to carry the gold
Will I remain humble or grow too bold
My back aches the pace takes it's toll
When you run too fast you fall short of the goal
Verse 2:
Drawing nearer every day with my finger on the trigger of a loaded gun
Losing sight moving into a blinding sun
Gotta stop, take a breath, think before I run
I'm wasting time with this masquerade
I need more love and a moment in the shade
Bridge:
We got lightnin' fast changes in technology
My kids don't read they watch tv
I guess you could blame me but I don't have the time
Paints a bleak picture, I can't find the rhyme
Faster computers, faster cars
TikTok social media stars
I log in for hours scrolling my feed
For more likes and shares, it's not what I need
Alternate last chorus:
Will my arms grow strong enough to carry the gold
Will I remain humble or grow too bold
My back aches the pace takes it's toll
When you run too fast you fall short
Will my arms grow strong enough to carry the gold
My temperature is rising as the world grows cold
My back aches the pace takes it's toll
When you run too fast you fall short of the goal
